Dan Navarro
(of Lowen and Navarro)
with
David Glazer
Dan
Navarro is better known as one half of the acoustic duo Lowen & Navarro,
who, for the past 20 years, have barnstormed the country on the heels of
their 11 albums. L&N had a reduced schedule and just recently stopped
touring due to Eric's 2004 diagnosis with ALS, aka Lou Gehrig's
Disease. So, for the past three years Dan has been stepping out on his own
and playing greater and greater numbers of solo shows all over the country.
The distinguishing marks are the same
for Dan solo as they have been with Eric Lowen all these years -- songs of
insight and experience, delivered straight up with honesty, passion and
grace. His songs (written with Eric Lowen, with other collaborators and on
his own) have been recorded by artists as diverse as Pat Benatar (the Top
Five smash "We Belong"), The Bangles, Dionne Warwick, Dave Edmunds, and many
more.
In addition to his activity as an
artist, Dan also lends his voice to movies, TV shows and commercials, both
in English and in Spanish. Some of his better credits have included Happy
Feet, Ice Age 2, Prison Break, Family Guy, American Dad and commercials for
McDonald's, Ford, Nationwide Insurance, Nissan, Shakey's and countless
others.

that warms an audience with good nature and humanity. "The act" is real.
She is real. SONiA cares and wants us to care about the issues that
bruise and abuse. Her music contains spirited protest updated for
today's ears with charm and a touch of glamour. "

Terry
Gonda with Kirsti Reeves
Recognized in
folk circles for her incredible voice and intelligent songwriting since the
mid 90's, Michigan-based Terry Gonda held back on releasing a full length
album until she believed her performance and outlook on life had ripened
sufficiently. The results can be heard on her first full-length CD, "love,
lose, repeat", and the strategy appears to have worked. Singer Magazine’s
Robert Linquist states: “Terry's songwriting is solid as she spins lyrical
adventures that run through love stories and songs of hope. Listening to her
music stirs much the same feelings as hearing a weather forecast for a
bright and sunny tomorrow though it be damp and dreary today.”

Amy Speace
"Amy
Speace has one of those fetching voices, the kind that taps
you on the shoulder and motions seductively for you to
follow it around corner after dark corner. You don't know
where you're going to end up or how you'll ever find your
way back, but that doesn't matter right now: you're enjoying
the trip."

Patty
Larkin
Patty is a rare combination of
talents. An English major, Larkin wrote songs throughout her high school and
college career, starting out in coffeehouses in Oregon and San Francisco.
Upon graduation, she moved to Boston and devoted herself to music, playing
on the streets of Cambridge and studying jazz guitar at Berklee College of
Music and with Boston Area jazz guitarists. "I wanted to learn as much as I
could about the instrument, how to read for it, how to play anything. I
realized the enormity of the task, and somehow gave myself permission to
climb the mountain. I'm still learning. "Over her 10 CD history, she has
honed a reputation as a "musician's musician", working with some of the
brightest talents in American music. Long a favorite with critics, Patty is
that unique level of artistic sophistication - one that her audiences have
come to appreciate and her new fans will love. Patty Larkin has achieved a
personal best with "Watch the Sky." The ever evolving artist has continued
to search for a new voice, a fresh palate. Watch the Sky. Watch Patty
Larkin.

Vance
Gilbert
Vance Gilbert burst onto the
singer/songwriter scene in the early 90's when buzz started spreading in the
folk clubs of Boston about an ex-multicultural arts teacher who was knocking
'em dead at open mics. Once word got to New York about this
Philadelphia-area born and raised performer, Shawn Colvin invited Gilbert to
be a special guest on her Fat City tour. Gilbert took audiences across the
country by storm. "With the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the
guitar playing of a god, it was enough to earn him that rarity: an encore
for an opener" wrote the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in its review of a show
from that tour.
Finishing a year and a half as support for George Carlin is the most recent
chapter in Gilbert's varied and successful performance history, leading up
to the creation and recording of Up On Rockfield. Up On Rockfield is indeed
Vance Gilbert's career-crowning achievement. This tour de force of borrowed
styles is classic Vance Gilbert original songwriting at its most timeless,
compelling best. Gilbert unflinchingly renders blame and absolution, trapped
hearts and free-riders, class and station, uncertainty and resolution, the
spiritual and the visceral, the forever and the now, all side by side in
song. His is a presentation steeped in deep humanism and bravery, stunning
artistry and soul, and unbridled joy. No great surprise to the learned
acoustic listener.
This is Vance Gilbert, after all. |

Cosy
Sheridan
Mythic
songwriter Cosy Sheridan and her wryly insightful songs have been showcased
everywhere from Carnegie Hall to The Dr Demento Show. In her
new CD on Waterbug Records, Live At CedarHouse, listeners can sample
a taste of Sheridan's live performances and see why she's been called "one
of the era's finest and most thoughtful singer-songwriters" and why
Acoustic Guitar Magazine wrote, "If I were going to throw an all-girl
dinner party at which I wanted to laugh and cry from the hors d'oeuvres to
the chocolate pudding, Cosy Sheridan is the first woman I'd invite."
Sheridan is one of the pre-eminent songwriters on the folk scene documenting
the lives of modern women. She places the fast-paced culture of 21st century
America into a mythic context with insightful, energetic and at times comic
effect. Who else would think to make botox injections the modern equivalent
of the beauty cream of Persephone, Queen of the Underworld? Or to find a
modern Psyche reminiscing about Eros from a women's prison?

Kate
McDonnell
Kate
McDonnell, a singer/songwriter who plays upside-down and backwards guitar,
is perhaps the musical lovechild of Joni Mitchell and Leo Kotke.
Fearless and funny on stage, she continues to impress audiences in Europe
and the U.S. with her heart stopping voice and jaw-dropping guitar
work. Kate's songwriting, as well as her recent co-writing with Anne
Lindley, has won her significant awards.
Whether her
theme is love, political landscapes, or dogs, Kate's songs unravel the human
heart and strip the pretenses of the world we live in.

Tom
Prasada-Rao
and
Cary Cooper
Brilliant writer,
amazing performer, sensational singer. I'm so jealous I could vomit. -
Christine Lavin
"Tom Prasada-Rao is as far
from boring folk music as you can get and still be holding an acoustic
guitar."
The Texas based folk/pop duo featuring
Tom Prasada-Rao and Cary Cooper: Two voices and a guitar, intricate
harmonies with a little cheerleading thrown in, singing love songs for grown
ups. They've been touring together for two years, and have just finished
their second CD.
Both Tom and Cary are Kerrville New
Folk Competition Winners - accomplished songwriters in their own right.
They draw on their experience in classical violin, musical theater, raising
kids, and living in the third world to create songs which navigate the
territory between Everything But The Girl and Leonard Cohen,
Lucy Kaplansky and Krishna Das.
